Book of the month for June 2016
This month we will be highlighting educator Kisha Michell and her book Brown Girl, Brown Girl, What Do You See?
Brown Girl, Brown Girl, What Do You See? is the first of her book series that addresses self-esteem in children. Mitchell’s series provides an avenue for addressing stereotypes and planting seeds of wonder at an early age, so that children from disadvantaged families have a fighting chance to realize their self-worth which will ultimately help them to discover their purpose! This book also allows other non-brown hued girls to be exposed to characters who may not have the same color skin, but are relatable. It shows how beauty can come in all shades!!!!
Kisha Mitchell, educator since 2004, has a passion for inspiring all young people. Throughout her years as an educator, she has seen many obstacles that young people have to overcome within themselves and within his or her communities. Her passion for young people inspired her, her husband and her dad to begin a girls’ and guys’ group for a variety of youth in the Carrollton area
